Update: TelemetryTV has Discontinued Support for IOS Devices

TelemetryTV no longer supports iOS devices, and the TelemetryTV app is no longer available for download or updates from the Apple Store. This decision has been made due to significant limitations and restrictions inherent to the iOS platform, which hinder the proper functioning of our app for digital signage purposes.

Reasons for Discontinuation:

Insufficient Cache Storage

One of the primary challenges encountered on iOS devices is the lack of cache storage. The limited cache storage available on iOS devices prevents the TelemetryTV app from running properly. Due to these technical restrictions, we are unable to support iOS devices on our platform.

Recommended Alternative: Android Tablet Devices

We strongly advise against using iOS devices for digital signage purposes. Instead, we highly recommend considering Android tablet devices as a suitable alternative. Android tablets have better capabilities to run the TelemetryTV app, providing the necessary cache storage and ensuring optimal performance.

By choosing Android tablets, you can leverage the full range of features and capabilities offered by TelemetryTV's digital signage solution. Android tablets provide a better platform for deploying engaging and dynamic content across your locations.

In this article we provide a step-by-step guide for setting up your digital signage with IOS devices.

Please Note: If you're looking for a digital signage solution, TelemetryTV recommends against using iOS devices, as they have many limitations.

If you need higher levels of functionality, we recommend using Android devices instead. See our hardware page for a list of all recommended devices.

However, if you still choose to use iOS devices, this article provides a step-by-step guide for setting up your digital signage.

Compatible Devices:

The following devices are compatible with our software: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 4, iPad (5th Generation), running iOS 12.2 or later.

Advantages of using iOS digital signage players

  • Highly portable

  • Great UX when deployed as interactive devices

Disadvantages of using iOS digital signage players

  • Smaller screen size may limit application

  • Expensive

  • The iOS app is limited to 50MB of cache storage. We recommend not displaying any videos if you're displaying them on iOS.

iOS Software Setup

There are two methods for setting up your iOS devices: pairing or provisioning. Below, we will cover pairing. Pairing is easy to set up and can be used for smaller deployments or for testing.

If you would like more control over your digital signage players, especially if you will be deploying a large number of devices, we recommend provisioning your iOS devices using an MDM. We wrote an article on how to do that which you can read here.

Pairing the Device

  1. Download the TelemetryTV iOS App to your device from the Apple App Store.

  2. Open the app. Once it loads, you'll see a six digit pairing code.

  3. On your computer, navigate to the Devices page on your TelemetryTV account.

  4. Click "Pair", and enter the pairing code you see on your device.

Setting up Guided Access

The Guided Access setting limits your iPad to a single app and lets you control which features are available. Here's how to set it up:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access.

  2. Turn on Guided Access.

  3. Tap Passcode Settings, then tap Set Guided Access Passcode.

  4. Enter a passcode, then reenter it. From here, you can also turn on Face ID or Touch ID as a way to end a Guided Access session.

  5. Open the TelemetryTV App on your iPad, then triple-click the Home button.

  6. If you want parts of your screen to stop responding to touch, use one finger to circle those areas. You can move or resize the circle, or tap the X to remove it.

  7. Tap Start. Your iPad is now in Guided Access mode.

You can also control which features are available in Guided Access mode. To control what features are available:

  1. Triple-click the Home or side button, then tap Options. If you don't see Options, triple-click the Home or side button again and enter your passcode.

  2. Turn on the options that you want, then tap Done.

Here's how to exit Guided Access mode:

  1. Triple-click the Home button or side button, enter your Guided Access passcode, then tap End. Or if you turned on Touch ID or Face ID for Guided Access, double-click the Home or side button.
